Dennis R. Buhr, 76, of Tripoli, died Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Unity Point/Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Public visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli where friends may greet the family. Private family burial will be held at Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Tripoli. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
Dennis Ray, son of Reinhard and Mildred (Timm) Buhr was born August 2, 1941, at the Sumner Hospital. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek, rural Sumner. Dennis received his education in the Sumner Schools and graduated from Sumner High School. He would continue his education at a Technical Institution where he studied mechanics. On November 12, 1961, he was united in marriage with Jeannine Cole at the First Congregational Church in Tripoli. Dennis worked at Chamberlain’s for over twenty five years and then worked at Sara Lee for six years. He was a long time member of the Sportsman Club. Dennis enjoyed puzzles, bowling (where he was active in a league for many years), being outdoors, whether it be fishing, gardening, or mushroom hunting.
Dennis is survived by a daughter, Pam (Kevin) Schwartz of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; a son, Rich (Carol) Buhr of New Hampton; seven grandchildren, Josh (Jessica) Frahm of Iowa City, Brock (Jaime) Frahm of New Hampton, Jessie (Eric) Reindl of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Jordan Schwartz of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dane Frahm of Charles City, and Mercedes and Dakota Bobst of Tripoli; four great grandchildren, Hayden Frahm, Jake and Jarett Frahm, and Kai Reindl; one sister, Julianne Zander of Fairbank; one brother-in-law, Jim (Carole) Cole of Tripoli; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeannine, in 2013; daughter, Penney in 2003; and brother, Lowell.
